Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Many apologies for the long silence. It’s been a crazy few months and we have lots of updates for you!
MAY 1st CANYON HIKE!
Spring has sprung and we want to invite you to a neighborhood hike through the canyons! You won’t want to miss this one. We will be meeting at the Crestmore Steps at 2pm and will have updates as to what is happening with the canyons (Walnut, Moss, Barryknoll, and El Rosa) and efforts to preserve them for recreational open space. After updates, there will be a self-guided tour, with stations at all four canyons! See the flyers below for details and please let us know if you have questions.
Elections for the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council take place on Saturday, May 21st 2016. We cannot stress how important it is to participate in the vote. Now is the time to change things for the better. Luckily, this year you can vote online, which makes it even easier! All you need to provide is proof that you live, work, or are part of an organization in Glassell Park. Please register to vote here! Online registration to vote closes on May 16th.
WALNUT CANYON & GOFUNDME
We’d like to thank all those who graciously donated funds to the NELA Greenspace GoFundMe account at the end of 2015. With the money we were able to pay for a lawyer to help address the proposed development in Walnut Canyon. We submitted paperwork showing the city that the developers need to conduct a full and complete EIR. Now we are waiting for the response to that paperwork, and will keep you updated when it comes through. Many have asked about the possibility of SMMC purchasing the land and preserving it, and there will be more info and developments on an upcoming blast.
Hope to see you all on May 1st!
